Set in the historic town of Wantage, birthplace of King Alfred, The King Alfred’s Head is a Grade II listed pub with strong ties to the town’s history. The pub was reimagined into a bold and characterful space, rooted in local heritage.

Overview

A refurbishment to reposition The King Alfred’s Head, strengthening its food offer and giving the pub a clearer identity.

Permaculture

Seating and layout were carefully shaped to make full use of the footprint, increasing capacity while maintaining comfort and flow. Materials were sourced with a focus on reuse and locality, incorporating reclaimed and pre-loved pieces.

Impact

Changes to the offer have extended trading hours, with spaces designed to support a broader pattern of use throughout the day.
